Two Paths You Can Go By

Prov. 4:18 “But the path of the just is like the shining sun,

That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day”.

In Proverbs 7 and 8 we see, side by side, two paths carefully demonstrated, and both personified as a woman; the path of the “immoral woman” in Prov. 7, and the path “wisdom” in Prov. 8

Scripture often gives us polar opposites and invites us to make an obvious choice.

Prov. 7:11-13, notice the character of the immoral woman.

         “She was loud and rebellious,

Her feet would not stay at home .

At times she was outside, at times in the open square.

         Lurking at every corner.

         So she caught him and kissed him;

Prov.. 8, in contrast:

vr, 6, “Listen, for I will speak of excellent things.”

vr. 7, “For my mouth will speak truth;”

vr. 12, “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,

vr. 22, “The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way,

         vr. 30, “Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;

And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him,

Pr. Finn use to say, “wherever you see a woman in Scripture it is a type of the Church”.

Notice some of the religious language that the immoral woman uses in Prov. 7:14-20: “I have peace offerings”, “I have paid my vows”. Myrrh and cinnamon are also in the anointing oil.

False religion is like a harlot. It offers the trappings of true religion  without any power or intimacy. II Tim. 3:5, “having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” It leads to death. 7:27

Notice what wisdom offers in Prov 8: “I have strength.” vr. 14

Enduring riches and righteousness.” vrs 18

“That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth.” vr. 21

Notice the Christlike character of “wisdom” in Prov. 8, remembering that the church is the representative of Christ in the earth. We are the body of Christ.

vr. 3, “She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city,

At the entrance of the doors:”  Christ is the door; Jn. 10:9

vr. 7, “For my mouth will speak truth” Christ is the truth; Jn. 14:6

vr. 32, “Now, therefor, listen to me, my children,

For blessed are those who keep my ways.”

Jn. 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments,”

Interesting that wisdom, “takes her stand on the top of the high hill,

Beside the way, where the paths meet.” vr. 2

Both, “cry out” to the “simple” and to, “fools”  7:7, and 8:5

Also see 9:5&6. A choice is ever set before us.

Wisdom is made available. “Get wisdom and with all your getting, get understanding.” Prov. 4:7

Also, Jas. 1:5, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

The immoral woman uses, “enticing speech” and “flattering lips”.

7:21

Whereas, wisdom says, “For whoever finds me finds life,

And obtains favor from the LORD;”
